Topochemical reaction

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012113

A chemical reaction that occurs in the solid state, where the reactivity and product formation are significantly influenced by the crystal structure and morphology of the reactant. The reaction proceeds within the confines of the crystal lattice, often leading to a product with a specific orientation relative to the starting material. An example is the polymerization of diacetylenes in the solid state.
