Restriction enzymes
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010276
Enzymes that recognize and cleave deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) at specific nucleotide sequences, known as restriction sites. They are naturally occurring in bacteria, where they serve as a defense mechanism against invading viruses. These enzymes are indispensable tools in molecular biology for gene cloning and genetic engineering.
