Atomic orbital
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000901
A mathematical function that describes the wave-like behavior of an electron or a pair of electrons in an atom. It defines a region around the nucleus where an electron is most likely to be found. Each orbital is characterized by a unique set of quantum numbers.
