Rydberg orbital
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010463
An atomic or molecular orbital characterized by a very large principal quantum number, causing the electron to be far from the atomic or molecular core. These orbitals resemble those of a hydrogen atom and are weakly bound, making them susceptible to perturbation. They are often involved in high-energy electronic transitions.
