Periselectivity
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008655
The selectivity observed in pericyclic reactions where a reactant can undergo several different pericyclic pathways, but only one or a limited number of these pathways are followed. This phenomenon is governed by orbital symmetry rules and steric factors. Periselectivity is a key concept in understanding and predicting the outcomes of cycloadditions and other concerted reactions.
