Orbital steering

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008298

A concept suggesting that the spatial orientation of reacting orbitals can significantly influence the rate and selectivity of a chemical reaction. This implies that for a reaction to occur efficiently, the orbitals involved in bond formation or cleavage must be aligned in a specific geometric arrangement. It is a factor considered in understanding reaction mechanisms and stereoselectivity.
