Nucleophilic substitution

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008138

A type of reaction in which an electron-rich nucleophile replaces a leaving group on an electron-deficient electrophilic center. The nucleophile donates an electron pair to form a new bond, while the leaving group departs with its bonding electrons. This process is common in organic chemistry, particularly with alkyl halides and acyl compounds.
