Specific detector
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011102
A detector in chromatography that responds selectively to certain chemical or physical properties of the analyte, rather than to a general property of all compounds. This selectivity enhances the signal-to-noise ratio for target compounds and simplifies chromatograms of complex mixtures. Examples include electron capture detectors for halogenated compounds and flame photometric detectors for sulfur and phosphorus.
