Capture γ-radiation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001615
The electromagnetic radiation emitted by an atomic nucleus immediately following the capture of a subatomic particle, such as a neutron. This radiation, consisting of high-energy photons, is released as the excited compound nucleus de-excites to a more stable state. It is a characteristic signature of neutron capture reactions and is used in techniques like neutron activation analysis.
