Meander

  1. A sinuous curve or loop in the path of a fluid flow, such as a river or an atmospheric jet stream. In the atmosphere, meanders in the polar jet stream can lead to significant weather pattern changes, allowing cold air to penetrate further south or warm air to extend northward. These undulations are driven by atmospheric dynamics.
