Poincare wave

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007993

A type of low-frequency inertia-gravity wave that exists in rotating, stratified fluids like the atmosphere and oceans. These waves are modified by the Coriolis effect, causing them to propagate differently than standard gravity waves. Their horizontal velocity components rotate anticyclonically over time, and their frequency is always greater than the local inertial frequency.
