Equatorial Poincare wave
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005423
A type of atmospheric or oceanic wave that propagates zonally along the equator, characterized by both eastward and westward propagation. These waves are dispersive, meaning their phase speed depends on their wavelength. They are a class of gravity waves modified by the Coriolis effect near the equator.
