Vortex street

A repeating pattern of swirling vortices that are shed alternately from opposite sides of a bluff body placed in a fluid flow. This phenomenon, known as a Kármán vortex street, occurs when the flow separates from the body. In the atmosphere, it can be observed as cloud streets downwind of islands.
