Tree ring

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009784

A concentric layer of wood produced by a tree in a single growing season, visible in a cross-section of the trunk. The width and density of these rings are influenced by climatic conditions during the growing season, such as temperature and precipitation. Dendroclimatology uses tree rings to reconstruct past climate patterns.
