Dendrohydrology

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004917

The science of reconstructing past hydrological conditions, such as streamflow, drought, and soil moisture, by analyzing the growth rings of trees. Variations in ring width and wood density reflect the moisture availability during the tree's growing season, providing a high-resolution proxy record extending back hundreds or thousands of years. This field is a subdiscipline of dendrochronology.
