Tree line

The altitudinal or latitudinal limit beyond which trees cannot grow due to environmental conditions such as low temperatures, insufficient moisture, or strong winds. Above this line, vegetation typically consists of shrubs, grasses, or tundra. The position of the tree line is a sensitive indicator of climate change.
