Arctic tree line
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003616
The northernmost limit where trees can grow, marking the transition from boreal forest to tundra. This boundary is primarily determined by temperature, specifically the 10°C (50°F) July isotherm, which represents the average temperature of the warmest month. Beyond this line, conditions are too cold for tree species to establish and thrive, leading to treeless landscapes dominated by low-growing vegetation.
