Snow forest climate

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008983

A climate type characterized by long, severely cold winters with persistent snow cover and short, cool summers, which supports the growth of coniferous forests. These climates, also known as boreal or subarctic climates, experience at least one month with an average temperature above 10°C (50°F) but no more than three. In the Köppen climate classification system, this corresponds to the Dfc, Dwc, Dfd, and Dwd climate types found in high-latitude continental interiors.
