Bogus observation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003966
An artificial observation constructed by analysts or by a program and inserted into an objective analysis or model initialization where real data are lacking, for example synthetic wind and pressure values representing a tropical cyclone over the open ocean. It is created deliberately to give the analysis a realistic structure, unlike an erroneous or falsified report. The bogus vortex placed in model initial conditions is built from such synthetic values.
