Dynamic initialization
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005204
A procedure used in numerical weather prediction to adjust the initial atmospheric state to be dynamically consistent with the forecast model's equations. This process reduces the amplitude of spurious high-frequency oscillations that can arise from imbalances in the initial data. It typically involves running the model backward and forward in time with damping terms.
