The process by which an aircraft or engine draws in foreign objects or substances from the surrounding environment. This can include birds, debris, or volcanic ash, which can cause damage to engine components or other systems. Ingesting volcanic ash, for example, can lead to engine flameout due to the melting and accumulation of ash on turbine blades.
