Consistent numerical scheme

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004613

A numerical method used in atmospheric models where the discretized equations converge to the original continuous partial differential equations as the grid resolution and time step approach zero. A scheme's consistency is a necessary condition for the numerical solution to accurately represent the true solution of the governing physical laws. The Lax equivalence theorem states that for a linear problem, a consistent scheme is convergent if and only if it is stable.
