Consolidated ice

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004614

A type of sea ice characterized by a very high concentration, where the floes are frozen together or are so tightly packed that they form a nearly continuous and immobile ice cover. This ice has little to no open water visible between the floes, impeding navigation. Consolidated ice cover is described by its concentration, with values of 9/10 to 10/10 coverage indicating a fully consolidated pack.
