Close pack ice
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004393
Sea ice coverage where the concentration is between 7/10 and 8/10, meaning that 70% to 80% of the sea surface is covered by ice. In this condition, the floes are generally in contact with each other, but there are still small leads of open water visible. Navigation through close pack ice is difficult and requires ice-strengthened vessels.
