Centered difference

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004224

A numerical approximation for the derivative of a function at a point, calculated using function values at points equidistant on either side of the central point. This method offers higher accuracy than forward or backward differences for a given step size. It is commonly employed in numerical weather prediction models to discretize spatial derivatives in atmospheric equations.
