Finite-element model
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005589
A numerical model that solves differential equations by dividing the domain into a mesh of discrete elements, typically triangles or quadrilaterals. Within each element, the solution is approximated by simple functions, and these approximations are then assembled to form a global solution. This method offers flexibility in handling complex geometries, such as coastlines or mountainous terrain, in atmospheric and oceanic simulations.
