Interpolation

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006617

A mathematical technique used to estimate values of a function or variable at unobserved locations or times, based on known values at surrounding points. In meteorology, it is commonly applied to create continuous fields of atmospheric variables, such as temperature or pressure, from discrete station observations. Common methods include linear interpolation, inverse distance weighting, and kriging.
