Extrapolation

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005519

The process of estimating a value beyond the original range of observed data, based on an assumed relationship or trend derived from the known data. In meteorology, this can involve extending a weather pattern or a statistical relationship into the future or to unobserved locations. The accuracy of extrapolation decreases rapidly with distance from the known data.
