Spline function

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009151

A mathematical function defined piecewise by polynomials, used for interpolating data points in meteorological analysis and modeling. Splines create smooth curves or surfaces that pass through a set of specified points, which is useful for gridding irregularly spaced observational data. The degree of the polynomial, such as cubic or quintic, determines the smoothness of the resulting interpolation between the data points.
