Thiessen polygon method
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009627
A spatial interpolation technique used to estimate the average value of a variable, such as precipitation, over an area based on point measurements. It divides the area into polygons, where each polygon contains only one measurement station, and all points within that polygon are closer to its station than to any other. The method assigns the value of the station to its entire polygon, then calculates a weighted average based on polygon areas.
