Area average

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003620

A statistical measure representing the mean value of a meteorological variable over a defined geographical region. It is calculated by integrating the variable's values across the area and dividing by the total area. This method is used to characterize regional conditions, such as average rainfall over a watershed or average temperature across a climate zone.
