Mean velocity

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010606

The average speed and direction of a fluid flow over a specified area or volume. It is calculated by summing the individual velocities of all fluid parcels and dividing by the number of parcels, or by integrating the velocity field. In atmospheric science, it often characterizes the bulk movement of air within a layer or across a region, such as the average wind speed in the planetary boundary layer.
