Bulk average
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004070
An average value of a physical property, such as temperature or velocity, calculated over a defined volume or area of the atmosphere. This contrasts with a point measurement, as it represents the mean state of the fluid within that region. Bulk averages are used in atmospheric models to characterize properties within a grid cell and in formulas for calculating fluxes of heat, moisture, and momentum.
