Arithmetic mean

A statistical measure representing the sum of a set of values divided by the number of values in the set. It is the most common type of average and is widely used in meteorology to calculate average temperatures, precipitation totals, or wind speeds over a period. For example, the average daily temperature is often computed as the arithmetic mean of hourly readings.
