Ensemble average
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005384
The arithmetic mean of a variable calculated across a collection (an ensemble) of multiple, parallel simulations or systems at a specific moment. This contrasts with a time average, which is calculated for a single system over a period. In weather forecasting, the ensemble average of many model runs provides an estimate of the most likely atmospheric state, while the spread indicates forecast uncertainty.
