Armouring
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-003633
A natural process where finer sediment particles are eroded from a streambed or land surface, leaving behind a protective layer of coarser, heavier particles. This layer, known as an armor layer, resists further erosion by subsequent flows. It is a common phenomenon in rivers and arid landscapes, influencing sediment transport dynamics and channel stability.
