Sediment-carrying capacity

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008764

The maximum amount of sediment that a fluid, such as air or water, can transport under given flow conditions. This capacity depends on factors like flow velocity, turbulence, and the size and density of the sediment particles. When the actual sediment load exceeds this capacity, deposition occurs.
