Heat capacity

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006187

The amount of thermal energy required to raise the temperature of a substance by a specific amount, typically one degree Celsius or Kelvin. In meteorology, the heat capacity of air, water, and land surfaces influences how quickly they warm or cool, affecting atmospheric stability and weather patterns. Water has a significantly higher heat capacity than land, leading to moderating effects on coastal climates.
