Specific heat capacity
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009093
The amount of heat energy required to raise the temperature of one unit mass of a substance by one degree Celsius or Kelvin. It is an intrinsic property of a material, indicating its ability to store thermal energy. Water has a high specific heat capacity, approximately 4.18 J/(g·K), which moderates Earth's climate.
