Field water-holding capacity

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005568

The maximum volume of water that a given soil can retain against gravitational drainage under natural conditions. This characteristic is a measure of the soil's ability to store water available for plant uptake. It is influenced by soil texture, structure, and organic matter content, and is a key factor in agricultural and hydrological modeling.
