Field capacity

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005561

The maximum amount of water that a soil can hold against the force of gravity after excess water has drained away. This measurement reflects the soil's ability to retain moisture for plant growth and is influenced by soil texture and organic matter content. Field capacity is typically reached one to three days after a thorough wetting event.
