Field
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-005560
A physical quantity that has a value for each point in space and time. A scalar field, such as temperature or pressure, is defined by a single number at each point, while a vector field, like wind velocity, is defined by both a magnitude and a direction. Weather maps are graphical representations of these fields, using isopleths to connect points of equal value.
