Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010390

The portion of water in the soil that can be absorbed by plant roots. It is the difference between the field capacity, which is the maximum amount of water the soil can hold against gravity, and the permanent wilting point, where plants can no longer extract water.
