Gravitational water

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006041

Water that moves downward through the soil profile under the influence of gravity, eventually draining away from the root zone. This water is not held against the force of gravity by soil particles and is therefore available for deep percolation or groundwater recharge. It is distinct from capillary water, which is retained in smaller pores and available to plants.
