Vadose water
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009938
Subsurface water held within the vadose zone, the unsaturated layer of soil and rock extending from the ground surface down to the water table. This water exists at pressures below atmospheric pressure and moves under the influence of gravity and capillary forces, contributing to soil moisture available for plants. Unlike groundwater in the saturated phreatic zone below, vadose water does not completely fill the pore spaces between sediment grains, instead sharing them with air.
