Groundwater

Water held underground within the soil, rock fractures, and pore spaces of geological formations. It fills the saturated zone, a layer of permeable material that is completely filled with water, the upper surface of which is the water table. Groundwater accounts for about 30 percent of all freshwater on Earth, with the remainder locked in ice caps and glaciers or found on the surface.
