Unsaturated zone
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009896
The region of the subsurface between the land surface and the water table, where the pore spaces in the soil and rock are not completely filled with water. This zone, also known as the vadose zone, contains both air and water. Water in this zone moves primarily downward under gravity and capillary forces, eventually recharging groundwater.
