Wetting front

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010224

The leading edge of water infiltrating into a dry or unsaturated soil profile, marking the boundary between the wetted and unwetted soil. This front moves downward through the soil as water percolates, driven by gravity and capillary forces. Its depth and speed are influenced by soil type, initial moisture content, and rainfall intensity.
