Differential water capacity

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004992

The rate of change of volumetric soil water content with respect to the soil water potential, representing the amount of water a soil can take up or release for a given change in matric potential. It is the slope of the soil water retention curve and indicates how readily available water is to plants at a particular moisture level. This property is highest in medium-textured soils like loams and lower in sands or clays.
