Differential thermal advection

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-004991

The change in thermal advection with height in the atmosphere. This vertical variation, where warm air advection increases or cold air advection decreases with altitude, leads to destabilization of the atmospheric column and promotes upward vertical motion. Conversely, decreasing warm air advection or increasing cold air advection with height leads to stabilization and subsidence.
